My humble pranams at the lotus feet of our most beloved Amma. I would like to extend a very hearty welcome to Sampoojya Swamiji Pranavamritananda Puri, distinguished guest Sri Pramod Ikkarappadi, Spiritual Orator, Adv. Krishnendhu, our former student, dear parents, my colleagues, darling children and all the well-wishers of the school who have gathered here.
It gives me immense pleasure to greet all of you on the auspicious occasion of the Annual Day of our school, and I also take this opportunity to deliver the Annual Report.
Amma says, “Tomorrow’s world will be shaped by the children of today. It is very easy to cultivate universal human values in the tender minds of children. The teaching of universal spiritual principles and human values should be a standard part of general education”. We had the privilege of establishing her institution in 1994. We provide education with advanced modern techniques. Smart Class, O Lab, Computer Lab, Library, E-learning, Audio Visual room, Maths Lab, and Science labs help the students to learn things in a simple way.
We started the current academic year with spiritual rituals on 29th May 2019. We conducted Ganapati Homam seeking the blessings of Vigneswara to remove all obstacles.
Amma teaches that all is the Supreme Consciousness. When we start to realize this beautiful truth, we feel that nature is an extension of our own body and spirit. We celebrated World Environment Day in a vibrant and enthusiastic way. Mr. Kallor Unnikrishnan, Reporter of Mathrubhoomi daily inaugurated the function. Our chief guest, Dr. Udayan, HOD of Botany Department, Sreekrishna College, Guruvayur conducted an awareness class on biodiversity and medicinal plants. Our students organized a variety of competitions like PowerPoint presentations, pencil drawing, quiz and poster making. Students exhibited varieties of medicinal plants and products made of waste plastic materials. Food fest and cycle rally were conducted to spread the message of Environment Day.
As part of International Yoga Day Celebration, we organized various programmes in our school on June 21st. Dr. Prathibha Madhusoodhanan, Senior Medical Officer at Melpathur Smaraka Ayurveda Hospital inaugurated the function. Competitions like drawing, slogan writing and essay writing were also conducted. Students displayed various asanas and yoga postures.
We opened the doors to the immense world of knowledge before our budding blooms on 12th June with “initiation of knowledge” ceremony, one of our traditional activities. Bri. Athulyamrita Chaithanyaji, in-charge of Mata Amritanandamayi Math, Tanur, blessed the occasion with her enlightening speech. We distributed saplings to the tiny tots to inculcate the importance of being one with nature. Classes for Std. XI also started on that day.
A good leader has an ideal character and is enthusiastic in his work. In order to lead and set direction, a leader needs to appear confident as a person, and in the leadership role. We conducted the Investiture Ceremony of our school council and assigned charges to new leaders for the current academic year.
Guru, the incarnation of God himself comes down to Earth, to awaken mankind and lead them to the state of self-realization. In Indian tradition, we pay more respect to Guru. We observe Guru Purnima in the month of Ashad, on the birthday of the great Sage Veda Vyasa. As part of Gurupoornima celebrations, our students performed Mathrupooja on July 11th under the guidance of Bri. Athulyamrita Chaithanyaji. On that auspicious day, we inaugurated Ayudh activities at our school.
Co-curricular activities form a major part of our routine and are conducted in such a manner that everyone gets due opportunity to exhibit their talents. We conducted AMRITA FEST, the cultural competitions on August 2nd and 3rd. Smt. Prasanna Unni, a trained classical dancer inaugurated the function. Students performed well in different cultural items.
Ramayana month was observed with beautiful renderings of the Ramayana by various students. Ramayana Parayanam, tableau, quiz competition, speech, role-play, conversation and radio-play were conducted. We also prepared and served Pathila thoran and oushadha kanji at the school.
We celebrated Onam and Sreekrishna Jayanthi with all its pomp and splendour. The majestic appearance of Maveli enhanced the thrill for the children. We also conducted a variety of cultural programmes.
Every day has its significance, but there are some special and important days that are celebrated. We celebrated Teachers’ Day with great dignity. We also celebrated Independence Day, Reading Day, Doctors’ Day, Kargil Diwas, Hindi Day, Ozone Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Constitution Day, Colours Day, Soil Day, Kerala Piravi, World Students Day and UN Day at our school in a vibrant and enthusiastic way.
Apart from imparting quality education, the school also concentrates on the students’ English speaking skills. Faculty from ILM Bangalore are here to train our students in order to remove their stage fright and thereby develop their all-round personality.
The aim of a Mahatma’s advent on the Earth is to lead mankind from the world of darkness to the light of wisdom. Our most beloved AMMA, Satguru Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the ocean of infinite love and compassion, incarnated on this earth for uplifting humanity. We celebrated Amma’s 66th birthday on Sep 27th. Our staff went to Amritapuri for 3 days to be a part of Amma’s birthday celebration. Our students also presented a dance performance at Amritapuri.
Our Kids Fest was on November 16th. Dr. Prathibha Madhusoodhanan, Senior Medical officer at Melpathur Smaraka Ayurveda Hospital, inaugurated the function. The tiny tots were at their best on the stage.
Our students came up with flying colours in the Sahodaya Competitions. Bhagya Krishna of XI Science got 3rd prize in English Versification, Sukanya S.G. of XII Commerce got 3rd prize in Hindi Versification, and Sooraj Menon of VIII-A got 3rd prize in Hindi Extempore and Hindi Recitation. Anagha Sunil of X-C got 2nd prize in Kuchippudi. Our students got an opportunity to participate in the State Level Sahodaya Competitions.
In Thrissur Sahodaya Sports competitions, Laya M.G. of VII-B got 3rd prize in badminton. In Thrissur Amateur competition, Abhishek N.B. of X-A got 2nd prize in javelin throw. Sharan P. Sunil of VI-B got 3rd prize in 16th South India Karate Championship. Neehara Rajesh of II-B secured 1st prize with Gold medal and Aradhya R.S. Of II-B secured 2nd prize with Silver medal in the 2nd SANKUKAI Championship, Thrissur district. Souparnika E.M. of X-A was selected as Runner-Up in the International Space Science competition 2020.
We are very happy to say that our students bagged a lot of prizes in “Paithrukam” competitions. Nidhi C.K. of VI-B won 2nd prize in quiz competition. Adhvaith P.S. of IV-B won 2nd prize, Adwaith Santhosh of IV-B won 3rd prize, and Darsana V. of V-A won 3rd prize in drawing. Athulya Babu of XI Science won 3rd prize in quiz. In the Sree Ottoor Anusmarana competition organized by Narayanalayam Guruvayur, Athulya Babu of XI Science won 3rd prize. Sooraj Menon of VIII-A got 1st prize in the district level Ramayana Quiz conducted at Thiruvenkidom Temple.
Our students marked their presence at the Kids Fest organized by Comates Circle, Kunnamkulam. Sreevardhan of LKG-A won 1st prize in Malayalam action song, Gouri Daksha of LKG-A got 2nd prize in fancy dress, and Sreenandh K.A. of VI-B got 3rd prize in Malayalam story writing.
For imparting the significance of farming vegetables and natural food items, we cultivated a variety of vegetables in school compound .On November 7th, “Vidyalayathil oru Pachakkari Thottam”, a project of Krishibhavan was inaugurated by Honourable MP, T.N. Prathapan. Agriculture Officer Mr. Pradheesh, Panchayath President Kum. Aashitha K., Ward Member Mr. Ravindran, ADA Mr. T.P. Baiju, and Mathrubhumi Unit Manager Mr. Vinod P. Narayanan graced the occasion. Students of Class VIII had arranged the Paithrukam stall. They exhibited traditional lamps, cookware, weighing stones, etc. In the Rooty and Fruity stall, our Class V students exhibited varieties of root vegetables and dishes prepared from them. Students of Std. VI exhibited different varieties of paddy and dishes.
Our school won the first prize in Haritha Vidyalaya Puraskar 2018, and we received a memento and cash prize of Rs. 5000. Our student Abhijith of I-B was selected as Best Seed Reporter. We also won 1st prize for the Best School by Season Watch.
Exhibitions provide a platform for exposure to the students. It always brings a kind of togetherness among students as well as teachers. In our school, we conducted Science and Maths exhibitions. Our students got the opportunity to display their discoveries and inventions.
Our students also organized exhibitions that showcased the importance of traditional agricultural practices and natural healthy fruits and vegetables. Our Std. VII students organized a plantain exhibition and exhibited a variety of banana dishes.
Incorporating Amma’s noble idea of students actively taking part in social service projects, we have started service activities at the school named Amritam Projects. On Wednesdays, the rice collected from students as part of ‘A Handful of Rice’ project is distributed in Balikasadhan, Sandeepani Old Age Home and to other needy families near the school. Our students, Devika Radha from XII Commerce and Meghana from IX-B donated their hair for cancer patients.
The aim of education is not just to acquire knowledge, but to learn values as well. Our teachers attended the Capacity Building Programs organized by CBSE and Sahodaya throughout this year. In the month of May, a training programme was arranged for the teachers by Extramarks and Tata ClassEdge. Three of our teachers were selected from among all Amrita Vidyalayam teachers as best users of Tata ClassEdge digital classroom. In June, our computer teachers attended a 5-day Cyber Security workshop at Amritapuri conducted by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, and a 2-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence at Amrita Vidyalayam, Thrissur. A Capacity Building Programme for Amrita Vidyalayam principals was also conducted at Amrita University’s Amritapuri Campus by CBSE. In August, the Integrated Amrita Meditation technique training conducted by Vivekji motivated our teachers to practice meditation in their daily lives. Our teachers attended an orientation class by Mr. Linto John, the founder of Accenta Education Bangalore, in October. In November, our school was the venue for a 3-day training programme for teachers organised by Mr. Ganapathy Pillai, the academic director of all the Amrita Vidyalayam schools in Tamil Nadu. Teachers from various Amrita Vidyalayam schools attended the workshop.
We have extracurricular activities such as Music, Dance, Drawing, Kung Fu, Yoga, Karate and Chess.
I am extremely happy to share with you that 40 students from Std. X secured above 90% marks in the CBSE Board exams. Six students scored A1 in all subjects. Nikhisha from Std. X stood first with 98.2%. Nikhisha and Anirudh scored centum in Sanskrit. Nikhisha, Anaswara and Anirudh scored centum in Social Science. In the CBSE Std. XII Board exams, Sayanora and Heera stood first with 94% in Commerce stream, and Abhinav Anoop stood first with 87% in Science stream. We proudly present our Std. XII Toppers, Sayanora and Heera K.S. receiving the award from the multi-talented actor of the Malayalam film industry, Padma Bhushan Lt. Colonel Mohanlal at JTPAC, Choice School Campus, Thripunithura on May 30th.
A motivational class by Mr. Rejin was arranged for students from classes IX to XII about leadership quality. Mr. Jims Varkey, Director of English Quest Education, Kochi had a talk with the students of classes IV to X on how to improve their language skills. An awareness class was organized on Road Safety. Mr. Santhosh Kumar, Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector, RTO Office, Guruvayur led the session. An awareness class on IT Act and Posco Act was arranged for our students by Adv. K.B. Haridas, Taluk Legal Service Committee, Chavakkad. An orientation class about CA and ACCA courses was arranged for classes XI and XII by Lakshya counsellors. A physical and mental health meet was also arranged for parents and students of classes I to VI. Dr. Rema Ravikumar, led the session.
The school has also provided opportunities for our students to appear for several scholarship examinations such as, MTSE, ELPSE, Ujwal Prathibha, English Quest and Aryabhatta Ganith Challenge conducted by CBSE. In the Ujwal Prathibha Examination, 9 of our students got cash prizes for their excellent performance.
We organized a scholastic book fair in our school. Our Class XI and Class XII Commerce students visited Kerala Feeds Limited, Kallettumkara as a part of their project work. We arranged a free eye check-up for all our students.
Our students participated in Sreshtabharatam, a reality show on Amrita Channel. This show is based on Indian Mythology and manuscripts, and we are happy to inform you that out of 63 schools that participated, our school won the 3rd prize of Rs. 75000. Our students displayed their excellence in all the three different rounds like debate, quiz and dance drama. The participants were appreciated for their in-depth knowledge of the Ramayana. Guruvayur Paithrukam honoured our school and students for the achievements in the Sreshtabharatam Reality show. This year also, our students have marked their place with an amazing performance in Sreshtabharatam, Season II.
Amma’s darling child, Master Chaithik T.V. of Class II-B became the title winner of D5 Junior dance reality show in Mazhavil Manorama, and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakhs.
As part of the “Fit India Movement” launched by our Honourable Prime Minister, our school has been declared as a Fit India School and received a Fit India Certificate. Our school also took part in the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign. Various activities like speech, PPT, awareness classes, etc. were conducted at our school. Our students cleaned the school premises. Students of Std. VIII were blessed with the opportunity to clean the Guruvayoor temple premises after Ekadasi.
Sports Day was celebrated on 15th November in a very energetic and festive atmosphere. It was inaugurated by Mr. K.R. Sambasivan, the National Level Master’s Volleyball Player and Thrissur District Sports Council President. The marvellous march past, display and martial arts performance by the students added a touch of grandeur to the event. The students actively participated in sports and games.
Excursions make education complete. This year also we conducted study tours for our students. Our Class XII students visited Mysore and Coorg. Class X students visited Mysore and Coimbatore. Students from KG to Std. V visited Silver Storm, Chalakkudy. We have planned to visit the Planetarium and Snow Fantasy in Kozhikode with Students from classes VI to VIII.
Our teaching staff provide unending inspiration and energy to each and every student at Amrita Vidyalayam. It is really an amazing task to nurture the tender minds of the children, and guide them towards an admirable way of life. Our non-teaching staff whose tireless efforts play an important role in the smooth functioning of the school, are our encouraging strength.
Our darling children always accept everything and dedicate their lives for the welfare of the school by lighting the lamp of Amma’s teachings in their hearts.
In conclusion I bow down to our beloved Amma for all that we have achieved so far, and pray for her continued blessings. I thank all the parents, teachers and well-wishers for all the help, support and encouragement given to us. I take this opportunity to thank all our dear students who have worked to uphold and elevate the good name of Amrita Vidyalayam. May Amma’s blessings always be with us.
